Leg Veins

Leg veins, spider veins and other benign vascular lesions are among the most frequent and challenging aesthetic complaints. Lumenis integrates two highly effective technologies to provide physicians with the most effective clinical solution for this complex condition:

The versatility of Intense Pulsed Light, at a range of 515 to 1200 nm, for reaching the small and superficial red vessels; and high-energy pulsed laser light at 1064 nm to treat deeper blue veins.

The result is the most comprehensive system available today that provides unparalleled performance in the non-invasive treatment of the full range of vascular structures, including:

  • Deeper, larger reticular and feeder veins up to 3 mm in diameter and 5 mm in depth0.
  • Spider complexes and superficial telangiectasias
  • Telangiectatic matting and hemosiderin staining associated with sclerotherapy
During treatment larger veins are completely closed and sealed, while smaller ones are effectively dissolved. This prevents the return of blood flow and recurrence of unsightly veins. An additional benefit is that the long wavelength laser energy easily passes through the melanin barrier of the skin's surface and does not interfere with pigment, enabling successful treatment of any skin type at any time during the year. Even better, this vein treatment is administered with little discomfort to the patient, no downtime and no compression wrapping. Treatment is fast and usually completed in just a few sessions. Results are both cosmetically pleasing and effective, attracting new types of patients and more referrals.

The combination of Intense Pulsed Light and 1064 nm pulsed laser light addresses both the dynamics of hydrostatic pressure and the complexity of vessel networks. During treatment, light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the blood. Delays between the pulses allow for sufficient cooling of the epidermis and thermal relaxation of the vessel.

Immediately after treatment, the temperature within the treated blood vessel has been raised sufficiently for it to collapse and break down with virtually no purpura effect.
After treatment and over time, the blood vessel disappears almost completely.
